Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum quantity to order any particular wine?

No there isn't. You can order one bottle or ten cases. However many you would like. (We reserve the right to limit quantities on some wines, if necessary, in fairness to our other customers.)

How does order size affect delivery of an order?

To keep your costs as low as possible, we only normally ship complete cases of 12 bottles. Until you have 12 bottles ready to go, we will hold your wine, free of charge, in our temperature controlled warehouse. If you would like a smaller quantity shipped, just let us know. Requests for immediate shipment must be in writing – just send us an email.

What is your shipping season?

To protect your wine from damage, we only normally ship wines during the spring, winter and fall: October or November through May or June. During the summer months, we will hold your wine, free of charge, in our temperature controlled warehouse. If you would like your order shipped outside of our normal shipping season, please request that in writing – an email would be fine.

What are pre-arrivals and futures?

Pre-arrivals and futures are wines that we have purchased but have not yet arrived at our warehouse. This is a common industry practice that helps to keep costs as low as possible. Typically, the earlier payments are received, the greater the discounts in pricing.

Of course, this means that patience is required on your and our parts, as we must then wait for the wine to arrive. We cannot be responsible for arrival dates. The winery may change release dates. Shipping companies may have scheduling or mechanical issues. All of this is out of our control. Please be assured that your wine will arrive, and that you will have saved money as a result of your patience.

Oh, and if you are interested, this is the difference between them:

Pre-arrivals are wines we do not yet have in stock, but offer as early as possible to you in order to get a good allocation at the best price.

Futures (also known as en primeur) are unfinished wines that are sold before they have been barrel aged and bottled. Futures are typically sold by wineries that have a consistent style year after year. For example, you may have seen futures offered by the chateaus of the Bordeaux region of France. Any futures sold by us will be clearly marked as such.

Can anybody order wine?

Sure, as long as: You are at least 21 years of age. You have the wine shipped to a state where it is legal to do so. The person receiving the wine is willing to sign for it and is also at least 21. Your address is accessible by a common carrier (no PO boxes). Your credit card is in your name and we have the correct billing address. If you meet these requirements, then yes, of course you can order wine.

Do you ship to my state?

We are currently shipping to California. If you are not in California, please do not place an order yet. However, state laws on shipping are changing all the time. Please let us know you are interested and where you live. See the shipping page for more information and a few alternatives.

How much is shipping?

Shipping charges will vary with the weight of the box and the destination. We do not charge shipping fees until your wine is actually shipped. We pass only the actual cost through to you and do not add any handling or packaging fees.
